You floated from the river and into my eyes, and I reached for you through weedy tangles.
The slippery green leaves slid past my hands as their names escaped my tongue.
If I could shout them out perhaps some mastery could be maintained, but no.
I waded out for you as you bobbed gently on the wide leaf bright and inviting.
Soft skin, bright eyes, petals unfolding.
With just one step too far in I began to sink and be sucked into a silty world of confusion.
Words became moot, as air became water and I slipped into deathly sleep with lungs that burned as bright as the sun.
